What is CBD Chocolate?
If you’re new to the world of cannabinoids, CBD is one of the two major compounds that come from cannabis plants. It is entirely non-intoxicating and highly concentrated in hemp plants, the industrial variety of cannabis which all our products are derived from. CBD helps promote general wellness and is an effective and versatile tool for the management of many health problems. More and more studies are showcasing cannabidiols powerful effects on our endocannabinoid system and helping us understand why it is so important we take it as part of a healthy daily regime.
There are several ways in which we can consume CBD, all of which offer slightly different benefits as well as the onset and duration of effects. The most common and popular way to take CBD is to place it under the tongue in the form of oil drops where they are immediately absorbed by the tissues. This offers one of the most effective ways to deliver CBD to the body due to the higher bioavailability and it does not have to pass through the digestive system in order to access the bloodstream. But some people prefer to make their CBD routine a little more exciting, who doesn’t like a bit of spice in their life? This is where CBD edibles can come in. CBD infused food can mask the slight earthy taste of hemp that some taste sensitive people may dislike, which makes them more enjoyable to consume.
If you are thinking it is just CBD and plain jane chocolate, well think bigger. People are making a diverse range of different fancy CBD chocolates. It comes in milk or dark chocolate, bars, or full of nuts and delicious white chocolates. Whatever your taste is, you can make any CBD chocolate to match your preferences.
The important and hardest part is to not treat your CBD chocolate like any other chocolate where you must resist to shamelessly devour a whole block at once.
We have all been there right?
But this is not the point with CBD edibles, they still need to be treated as you take your regular daily CBD dosage. Think of it as a really delicious health supplement.
A concern among consuming CBD edibles compared to its other methods such as oils or suppositories is that the cannabidiol does have to pass through your digestive system which may not be as bioavailable as its other methods and takes longer to reach your endocannabinoid system. But if time/instant relief is not a concern, this is where CBD edibles shine because as well as being deliciously yummy, the cannabidiol is released slowly into the bloodstream creating a longer lasting effect. You can also bypass the digestion by allowing the chocolate to melt under your tongue and let the CBD soak into the tissues.
Okay, just tell me how to make the chocolate!
Whether you are an adventurer in the kitchen or just have no clue, not to worry, making CBD chocolate at home is a simple process and you can’t deny it sounds like an exciting idea to try. The bonus is that you can fully customize your chocolates to however your sweet tooth prefers.
It only requires some CBD oil, basic kitchen utensils, a DIY double boiler, some chocolate molds, and a little bit of sugar or natural sweetener.
Follow this CBD chocolate recipe:
- 1 cup unsalted vegan or non-vegan butter
- 1 cup chocolate of your choice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup honey
- Choice of nuts (optional)
- CBD oil
- Silicone mold (which can be found at your local store or baking shop)
When choosing the CBD oil dosage, you will need to do some napkin math’s to calculate how much CBD you need based on your regular daily dose. For example, if you would like 20mg per chocolate then you would need to incorporate 200mg of our CBD oils into 10 evenly sized chocolates.
How to Make CBD Chocolate:
- Fill a large pot or saucepan with an inch of water, then place a stainless-steel mixing bowl on top, avoiding contact between the water and the dish. This is how you create a DIY double boiler (to prevent burning of the chocolate).
- Turn heat to low and pour the butter into the dish, stirring frequently to allow it to melt without burning.
- Once you have melted half of the butter, add the chocolate to your double boiler. Keep stirring to prevent burning.
- When everything is well combined, take the pan off the heat and let it cool. Keep in mind not to let the mixture harden.
- Once cooled, evenly stir in the honey, vanilla extract, and your CBD oil.
- Evenly stir in the crunchy nuts if using
- Pour the CBD chocolate evenly into a mold to your required amount.
Chill in the refrigerator or freezer until solidified then eat away!
The plus about this recipe is that its fully customizable to the chocolate lover in you.
